Learning and Growing Together

Class 3C

We have 25 wonderful children in our class who are all unique and special in their own way. Miss Chapman, Mrs Rickards, Mrs Holmes and Mrs Banks are surprised and amazed by their learning every day.

Please explore our class page to share in our

Year 3 journey.

Art Project Fun!

Today, an artist called Nadya visited our school. She is creating a sculpture at the Lawns and working with Stokes to use recycled pallets to make it.

Our job was to help make the banners that will be displayed with the sculpture. We made stencils and printed on material. It was a challenge - but lots of fun!

What a SWEET first day back!

To continue our topic all about stories, we spent our first day doing lots of fun activities about ‘fantasy’ stories. We learnt all about the wands in Harry Potter and designed our own, we tasted sweets and invented a treat which Willy Wonka himself would be proud of and we walked the yellow brick road to the Emerald City to make character puppets! This week, we’ll practise our SPAG skills using each of these three stories to help us.

Our Character Puppets

Click on the link below to find out about what we are learning in Year 3 in Term 5 and 6!

This week we've been looking at the story 'Where the Wild Things Are.' At the beginning of the week, the children in year 3 drew their own Wild Thing character and used watercolours to paint them. We then used this character in our English lessons to write a character description. On Friday afternoon, we really enjoyed learning how to stipple using different paintbrushes. A big shout out to 3C for demonstrating fantastic teamwork by working in pairs to stipple a Wild Thing image!

We have started learning French!

Over the past few weeks, we have been learning how to ask and answer questions about how we are and learning how to say our name too. Listen to our conversations here!

Today, we concentrated on the problem and resolution sections of the story mountain.  In groups, we acted out different scenarios about what problems might happen to rainforest explorers.  We then had to think of several resolutions to the problems, choose the best solution and pose in a Freeze Frame to show our ideas.  We needed to use expression on our faces and think about how to position our bodies.

Rock Investigators!

We've had another wonderful week in 3C! In Science this week, we compared and grouped different rocks based on their appearance and properties. To do this we worked hard in pairs and showed excellent teamwork skills! We investigated whether it was hard or soft, if it was permeable, does it react to acid (vinegar!) and whether it is buoyant. We absolutely loved doing this, but didn't enjoy that our classroom smelt of vinegar afterwards! laugh Well done for your hard work this week 3C! You ROCK!

Shackleton's Journey

Wow! What an amazing first week back! This week we started exploring 'Shackleton's Journey' by William Grill in our English lessons. We've learnt lots of interesting facts about Shackleton and his crew who travelled to the South Pole! We even learnt that they took 69 dogs with them!

Today we discussed the question 'should Shackleton have organised the journey?' We then worked in teams to talk about whether it was a good idea or a bad idea. We really enjoyed making our arguments and sharing these with others.

Well done 3C for a super start to Term 5! smiley

What an fantastic start to Term 5! To launch our new Topic, ‘Journey to the Islands of Stories’, we had a creative day. We read the book ‘Tower to the Sun’ by Colin Thompson and for our Picture This, we recreated one of his illustrations using sponging and collage. Have a look at our wonderful artwork below! We have even created a new classroom display in a day!

Autism Awareness Week 2021

We are all different, we are all the same and we should be nice to everyone.

Here are some examples of our own 3C Trummies!
