Nurture Provision

At Westgate Academy we strive to support our pupils in all areas of their school journey, including their mental health and wellbeing. Our Pastoral and Safeguarding team provide a range of support and resources to help our pupils overcome any challenges they may face so that they feel happy, secure and able to learn.

Miss Rattew is our Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA), who support children’s emotional development and helps them cope with life’s challenges. ELSA is about creating a reflective space for the child and help them find solutions to problems they might have.

Miss Fox is our nurture practitioner and counsellor,  who supports children who have suffered trauma and who have attachment issues due to their home circumstances. She gives children the tools to become more resilient, more adaptable and able to manage their experiences and emotions successfully.

Mr Griffin is our Behaviour Support, who helps children who struggle to manage their own behaviour and anger. He works with children who sometimes find to difficult to self- regulate and make appropriate behaviour choices. Mr Griffin is based in the Hub where pupils can have time out, reflect, re-set and then re-join their learning successfully.

Miss Howlett is our Family Support worker , who supports children, parents and family networks with situations in their home life such as bereavement, family breakdown, transport and housing issues.

We work alongside the School SENDCO, Teaching Team and with other external agencies, such as Early Help, Social Care, and the Mental Health Support Team.
