Admissions Consultation

Consultation on the Admission Policy from September 2027

What are we consulting on?
Aspire Schools Trust and Westgate Academy are consulting on the academy’s admission arrangements for pupils who will be starting in Year 3 from September 2027.

We are proposing to reduce the Published Admission Number (PAN) from 120 to 90 pupils. This means that we are proposing to admit a maximum of 90 children to Year 3 from September 2027. This proposed change is due to falling birthrates, many areas in the UK are experiencing a decline in birth rates, leading to fewer children needing school places.  The school historically does not receive 120 admission applications, making a PAN of 90 a more realistic and efficient number to deliver consistent education and support curriculum planning and staff deployment.

Who are we consulting with?
The School Admissions Code 2021 requires that all admission authorities undertake a statutory consultation to seek the views and comments of anyone who may be affected by the Policy.  The consultation will run for 6 weeks, commencing 10 November and closing on 15 December 2025.  A copy of the School Admission Code 2021 can be found at: here.

How can you respond to the consultation?
You can respond to the consultation in writing or by email to the details below:

Mrs J Guest, Governance and Compliance Officer
Westgate Academy, Westgate, Lincoln LN1 3BQ
Email: enquiries@aspireschoolstrust.org

The closing date for responses is 15 December 2025.

What happens next?
At the conclusion of the consultation, all responses received will be collated and presented to the Aspire Trust Board for full consideration.  The Trust (as the admissions authority) will then determine Westgate Academy’s final admission arrangements for 2027–2028.  The outcome of the consultation will be posted on the school’s website along with the final Admissions Policy for 2027-28.
