Experience

Mike Belcher

Mike the academy’s Chair of Governors.

He is a retired primary school teacher with over thirty-five years of experience in the educational sector.

Elizabeth Hopkins

Elizabeth has been a governor at Westgate Academy for almost 20 years and is one if the schools three Members and Trustees.  She is a retired university lecturer involved in teacher training and prior to this worked as a senior leader and English teacher in four secondary schools. She is passionate about the quality of teaching and learning at Westgate Academy. Although retired she continues to work as a student mentor at the University of Lincoln, volunteers in a school for vulnerable teenagers and for Barnardos. She has two daughters and five grand children. She enjoys travel, gardening and water colour painting.

Simon Clarke

Simon is the proprietor of the Lincoln Bailgate Post Office. He has had a career in retail, and has a wealth of experience with budget management.

David Ford

David has been an accountant for over thirty years and has a wealth of experience of working with schools in the role as a governor.

Cate Waby

Cate is currently the Vice-Chair of Governors.

Cate works for the Lincoln Civic Trust. She has a wealth of experience as a manager, and provides some excellent skills for human resources, site management and budget.

Robert Swainson

Robert is the current chair of the Finance and Resources Committee.

Robert is a retired Chartered Surveyor with 48 years’ experience in the public and private sector. Originally a parent governor with two children having passed through the school he has remained on the board latterly assisting with finance and resources.

Nikki Meggett

Nikki is the current chair of the Achievement and Teaching Committee.

Nikki has a wealth of experience of working in schools. She has a vast knowledge of working and supporting children with additional needs, especially with autism and ADHD. Nikki currently works for HMP Lincoln supporting learners with additional needs.

Stephanie Skelton

Steph Skelton is currently is Head of HR at Park Air Systems. Steph has previous experience advising Governing bodies when national HR Advisor for schools and has worked in HR and leadership for 20 years. 

Thomas Marshall

Thomas is the teaching staff governor.

Currently a Year 6 class teacher and the History lead in school, Thomas has worked at Westgate Academy for four years. He is keen to ensure all children get the opportunity to fulfil their talents and potential through the curriculum and wider experiences, such as trips. Moreover, Thomas is leading the Eco and outdoor project to improve our local environment and outdoor learning facilities. Away from school, Thomas has a passion for sport and can often be found running around Lincoln for his local club.

Clerk

Sandra White

Sandra joined as Clerk to the Governing Body in February 2021. She currently acts as Clerk to another junior school in Lincoln and a large Multi-Academy trust in the West Midlands.
